Commission and override tracking for agency networks: what to look for
Producers don't leave networks because of the split. They leave when they stop trusting the numbers.

In a single agency, commissions are a finance task. In a network with producers, team managers, agencies and a parent organization, they become an operating system: who sold what, under which hierarchy, with which override, and who can see it. When that lives in spreadsheets, every month ends with disputes and every new producer adds complexity.
Why trust is the real metric
Producers accept many kinds of splits. What they don't accept is not understanding how their number was calculated. A clear, auditable commission process is a retention tool for the network itself.
Five things a network CRM must support
- 01Hierarchy as data: network, agency, manager and producer levels that the system understands, not labels in a column.
- 02Ownership at the policy level: every policy tied to a writing producer, with history when ownership changes.
- 03Override rules: compensation flowing to managers and agencies according to the structure, not manual math.
- 04Scoped visibility: producers see their book, managers their team, agencies their operation, leadership the whole network.
- 05Audit trail: who changed a rule, an assignment or a record, and when.
Data you'll need before migrating
| Data | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Producer roster and hierarchy | Defines who reports to whom and where overrides flow |
| Policy-to-producer assignments | Base for every commission line |
| Current split and override rules | Written down once, instead of living in someone's formulas |
| Historical exceptions | The special deals that always cause disputes |
Write your commission rules in plain language before you configure any system. If you can't explain them, software can't either.
